Helen, Georgia might be the most adorable small town in the Northeast of our state! It has certainly taken my family's hearts & been a favorite overnight getaway spot for us these past couple years! We have now started a tradition of going mid December to see all the Christmas festivities!
Helen is located about 1.5 hrs North East of Atlanta & is a cozy little Bavarian style town tucked away in the mountains. It's the perfect weekend getaway! Whether you want to get out and explore or stay inside and enjoy the view, Helen can accommodate it all! From it's beautiful architecture to stunning river views, this town just might be the best place to stay for a weekend adventure to the mountains!
Without further ado, Here's some general info about the quaint little village:
Where to stay
2/3 trips we have stayed at the Hampton Inn on the river & have absolutely loved it! The location is great in relation to the town. It's only 2 blocks from main street (where all the shops are!) And the river view is hard to beat!
Where to eat
We typically only eat one dinner every time we stay, so I can't give a solid answer because we've only eaten each place once, BUT here's every restaurant we've eaten at:
The Troll Tavern $$ - The food was good and had a decent mix of "picky eater options" and traditional German cuisine! A great option for kids! Unfortunately, for our experience, the service wasn't great, but again I say this was a one time experience so it may not be true for everyone!
Hofbrauhaus Restaurant & Pub $$ - Another great option for families for picky eaters! They had a good mix of "normal" foods mixed with several German dishes! (P.s. get the Pretzel if you can! It was delicious!) Anndd the service was pretty good! Everyone was kind and the staff was fun & playful!
Cowboys & Angels Restaurant & Bar $$ - On our most recent trip, we ate here! Now admittedly, none of us got any German dishes, so i can't speak for that side of things, however, as far as restaurants go, this was excellent! The food and service were both great! (I got the Chicken Alfredo - 10/10 would order again!) *I will say that we went at dinner time and it did have a fairly noisy atmosphere, which didn't bother me, but I know for some that's a turn off!*
Where to shop
Personally I think all the shops are great, but my favorite has been Wildewood! There's so many things in this shop, so we've found so many great gifts here! Anddd if you want a lil snack I definitely recommend any of the funnel cake sellers and most of all, Cristoff's Carmel Corn & Coffee! Their carmel corn is incredible! My family looooves the sweet & spicy!
Where to take pictures
Truly there's no "bad" places to take pictures. That's one of my favorite things about this town! You could literally stop anywhere & your background would be to die for!! But trip after trip there do seem to be some places i just keep going back to!
In front of The Heidelberg - Probably my favorite & most iconic Helen photo that i take trip after trip! The colors of all of the shops are just so perfect its a wonderful photo op!
In front of the trees - An obvious photo op but i shall mention it nonetheless! Helen's Christmas trees are just so cute!
Misc. Picspo -
I hope you get to take a trip & see this beautiful slice of Georgia Heaven!
