Stranger Things Tour

Stranger Things Tour

For the past few months, everyone has had the same collective thought: Stranger Things. SHW included!

So...my cousins and I decided to go around the greater Atlanta area to visit some new and old Stranger Things filming locations. I've been to a few of these locations several times but there's just something about taking a couple of days to exclusively visit filming locations that just makes you feel like you're actually in Hawkins! So without further ado, here's our tour:

[All addresses are at the end!]

 -

Creel House

About an hour NW of Atlanta, in Rome, GA, sits the beautiful "Creel House." This location is truly breathtaking and, filming location aside, the home is gorgeous.

Where to take pictures

There are a few stairs in front of the home that are right on the public sidewalk that make for a great picture taking area. [There is a rope in front of the walkway up to the home, please remember to be respectful as this is currently a private residence, take your pictures and videos but please do not harass the homeowners or fellow fans!] We went on a weekday and had the entire place to ourselves! Overall I think we were there for maybe 10-15 minutes, plenty of time to take pictures of all three of us as well as plenty of individual shots!

I -highly- recommend taking a tripod! It was incredibly useful, especially when, as I mentioned, there was no one else around to ask to take pictures of us! [and sometimes, even when there are people, it's just easier to set up the shot yourself!]

-

Palace Arcade / Family Video

This location is my favorite ST location of all time! First, it's rarely un-themed, in the 2 years since I first went, I have never seen it not purple, yellow, and orange! Second, in my experience, there's hardly anyone there! Everytime I've been, except for the last time, there has been no one else there.

Where to take pictures

Really all around! My favorite spot, however, is on the right side of the building. There's an area of the building that is metal in the signature pattern of the arcade. While the vinyl is easy to peel off the glass areas, this area of metal is always in perfect condition! So you -can- take a picture anywhere, but this spot is my favorite!

-

Hawkins High School

One of the most iconic, and my all time favorite locations, is located less than an hour south of Atlanta in Stockbridge, GA.

Where to take pictures

Again, there are so many places you can take pictures here around the school, so much of the school's exterior is used in the show so you can't go wrong! But of course, the most iconic has to be the front where the school's logo/mural is!

-

Starcourt Mall

Located half an hour NE of Atlanta sits Gwinett Place Mall, the most iconic filming location of season 3, Starcourt!

Where to take pictures

Now... this might seem simple, but we did actually have quite the time trying to find the exact entrance from the show. After doing a quick rewatch though we found it! Obviously looking at pictures now it is obvious.. but there are quite a few entrances that look... all the same! Hopefully, you won't follow in my footsteps!

-

Hawkins National Laboratory

A piece of the Emory campus, located in downtown Atlanta!

Where to take pictures

This is probably the most secured location and we weren't able to get super close, but there is a little break in the bushes out front that provide a perfect opening to take pictures, while not trespassing...

-

The Boy's Houses

All the houses are located in the same neighborhood. In fact, Mike & Lucas' houses are actually (almost) neighbors! Their houses are just a house apart, however, Dustin's is located at the beginning of the neighborhood & Barb's is located at the end of the neighborhood's main road!

Where to take pictures

All the houses are easy to see and take pictures of, though the Wheeler's might be the best and most iconic of them all! I personally don't stay in front of any of them for -too- long as I try to be mindful that these are real people's homes! [I really hope you do the same!]

-

Benny's Burgers

Located about 20 minutes west of Atlanta, sits a location not too dissimilar from it's TV counterpart, Tiffany's Kitchen.

Where to take pictures

Obviously, the outside is a perfect place to take pictures but inside there is a table in the same spot as where Benny and Eleven sit and talk! And while you don't have to eat here, as an Atlanta local, I do recommend grabbing a bite to eat! Such good classic diner food!
