Ayeder Dorta's Cookies

Ayeder Dorta's Cookies

This recipe dates back 4 generations in my family. Originally called "Dorothy's Cookies" as they were a recipe from my Great Grandmother's cookies... until recently when my brother called them "Ayder Dorta's" and I just thought that sounded cooler, so here we are 😆 These are a delicious chocolate cake-like cookie! The chocolate flavor isn’t overwhelming but the subtly is what makes them so good! (especially when paired with an equally delicious icing)

Without further ado, here are my favorite cookies to make!

*Makes approx. 2-2.5 dozen cookies depending on how big you pipe them!

Ingredients

- 1/3 c. crisco

- 1 c. sugar

- 1 egg

- 3 tbsp. cocoa

- 1 1/2 c. flour

- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder

- 1/2 tsp. salt

- 2/3 c. milk

- 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

1. Pre-heat oven to 350

2. Combine crisco, sugar, and egg until combined and creamy.

3. In a separate bowl, combine cocoa, flour, baking powder, and salt.

4. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the creamy sugar mixture (your mix will start to get doughy, as it does add in the milk and vanilla to loosen up the mixture. you should be left with a fluffy mixture)

5. (Optional) I recommend moving your mixture to a piping bag to make it easier to transfer to a baking sheet. Pipe small circles (roughly the size you want your cookies to end up, they do not spread much)

6. Bake 10 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

7. Ice and enjoy! ( I recommend using a vanilla buttercream frosting [ i halfed this recipe for these cookies!])
